When you step into the Mansfield Farmers’ Market, in the High Country of Victoria, you have arrived at a truly farmers’ market. You have a colourful array of stalls vending everything from vegetables, cider and wine, fruit bread, ice-cream, baked goods and there is always something for everyone, the young, the elderly, and the young at heart.
You can find this market between Delatite Hotel and Post Office on the High Street (median strip). It was started on a wet and cold day, way back in 2009 September at the Mansfield Primary School. Luck was possibly on their side as it was the basketball court and the roof above their heads was enormous. But, from thereon, they have established themselves as a respected and authentic farmers market. They moved to their current home in 2013 and in the same year Alli Walker (operator and owner of the market) of Walker Events received the first Excellence in Food Tourism Award. Understandably Mansfield Farmers’ Market also rose to join the list of ‘must do’ attractions in our local area.
At Mansfield Farmers’ Market when you are buying something, there is the confidence that the vendor from whom you are buying has either grown, harvested or made it. It is this confidence that makes this market different. There are no wholesalers or middlemen and everything is made or grown within the local region.
Visit this market between 8.30 am and 1 pm February through December, on 4th Saturday every month.
